How OptimizePixels Works

Learn how OptimizePixels opens, resizes, converts, compares and prepares images locally in your browser without an image-processing upload.

OptimizePixels is a local-first image workspace. You choose files from your device, the application decodes and processes them inside the browser, and the browser prepares the results for you to save. Your source images and processed results are not sent to an OptimizePixels image-processing server.

This design keeps the image workflow on the device in front of you while giving you direct control over dimensions, format and quality.

The image workflow begins and ends on your device. Loading the website itself still involves ordinary requests for application files and pages.

From source image to saved result

You select one or more images

The browser grants the page access only to files you choose through the picker or drop area. OptimizePixels reads their type and dimensions and creates local previews for the working project.

You choose the output settings

Select WebP, AVIF, JPEG or PNG output, adjust quality where applicable and set target dimensions. Presets are starting points; the individual controls remain available so the decision can reflect the actual image.

The browser processes the pixels

OptimizePixels resamples the image when dimensions change and passes the result through the selected encoder. This work happens on your device, so processing speed depends partly on the file, settings, browser and available hardware.

You review the result

The workspace reports original and optimized sizes and lets you compare the visual output. If important detail is damaged or the saving is unhelpful, change the settings and process the image again.

You save the result to your device

Save one processed image or package successful batch results into a ZIP. Keep original source files separately when you may need to edit or export them again.

Local project restoration is not cloud backup

The application can store working images and settings as browser site data so a project can return in the same browser profile on the same device. Clearing ordinary cached page files does not necessarily remove the project, but clearing OptimizePixels site data does. Browser cleanup, private browsing, storage limits or a browser reset can also remove local projects. Save finished files you want to keep. Read the local processing and storage guide .

What browser-based processing changes

There is no upload queue and no remote conversion job to retrieve later. Work begins on the device in front of you. Large batches and high-resolution AVIF exports can therefore use noticeable memory or processing time, particularly on older phones and laptops.

A browser tab also has practical resource limits. If a very large batch struggles, process fewer files at once, close memory-heavy applications or use more modest target dimensions.

What privacy-first does not mean

Local image processing does not make the entire website anonymous. Like other websites, OptimizePixels receives ordinary requests for pages and assets. Optional analytics and advertising technologies may also process technical information when enabled and permitted. The Privacy Statement and Cookie Policy explain those separate activities.

Why the tool asks you to inspect the output

Compression is a visual trade-off, not a promise attached to one quality number. Encoders react differently to faces, gradients, text, transparency and fine texture. The comparison workflow keeps the final judgement with you rather than pretending that one preset is correct for every image.

How-it-works questions

Do my images leave my device for processing?

No. OptimizePixels performs image decoding, resizing, encoding, previewing and result preparation in your browser. The image files are not sent to an OptimizePixels image-processing server.

Why can a project return after I close the tab?

The working project can be saved in browser storage on the same device. Use Clear All or clear the site’s browser data when you want to remove that local copy.

Why does processing speed vary?

Image dimensions, batch size, target format, encoder settings, browser and device resources all affect local processing time.

Do I need an account?

No account is required to use the image optimizer. The working project is associated with the browser and device, not an OptimizePixels user profile.
